Claridge’s has been on London’s luxury hotel landscape for generations, glamorously upholding traditional luxury hotel standards for the great and good, rock stars and royalty alike. But, a spa with a pool has been conspicuously absent. Until now.
Following seven years of digging and designing, and an investment of multi, multi-millions, Claridge’s spa version 1.0 is open.
Anyone looking for a calm, cocooning spa experience, with an Eastern wellness vibe, bang in the heart of swanky Mayfair. If you’re after somewhere exclusive, where you’ll be made to feel special, and you have ‘special occasion’ funds to match, this one’s for you.
Three floors below street level, the spa is a multi-sensory delight, with subdued lighting, exotic aromas and the sound of trickling water combining to create an almost meditative effect. With an 11m pool, sauna, steam room and seven treatment rooms, this Japanese-influenced oasis takes indulgence at Claridge’s to a new level – metaphorically as well as literally.
Tones are soft, with blush and neutral hues contrasting with the bold monochrome of the hotel lobby. And the space has a natural feel thanks to the limestone-clad columns that flank the central pool and the use of oak elements throughout the spa. Bare wood panels have also been subtly incorporated into the treatment rooms to create an organic, minimalist feel.
Luxury permeates the whole spa, from the supersized heated massage couches with pink duvets, to the stylish kimonos and crystal-infused drinking water.
And hairdressing services from Josh Wood and creative manicures by Harriet Westmoreland will ensure you emerge from the spa preened and pampered to perfection.
For anyone wanting wider wellness, Claridge’s spa offers a ‘Spa Concierge’ to put together a tailored plan to help you achieve your beauty and wellbeing goals du jour. This extends to visiting expert practitioners who’ll be providing specialist wellness services, from vitamin infusions and acupuncture by celebrity favourite Ross J Barr, to….well, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Treatments are delivered on the aforementioned, super-sized massage beds which are warmed to pampering perfection.
Many of the treatments start with a welcome foot ritual – don’t underestimate how much you’ll enjoy this part of the treatment. In fact, ritualistic elements feature throughout the Claridge’s signature treatments, with an appreciated nod to Eastern wellness practise.
The spa menu features all your usual treatments – albeit top-end versions – with facials and body treatments from the likes of Augustinus Bader, Face Gym and La Eva.
Whether you’re looking to slim and sculpt, chill and detox or just have some quiet reflection in the lap of luxury, Claridge’s spa has something for everyone.
We love the sound of the signature Bamboo and Silk Ritual, a 90-minute treatment delivering a tension-relieving massage using warm herbal poultices, and bamboo sticks, followed by a facial massage with natural silk thimbles, then an acupressure finale. One for the wish-list.
The spa’s open to non-residents as well as hotel guests – anyone who’s booked a 90-minute treatment can use the pool and spa facilities for two hours. But Claridge-class treatments don’t come cheap – a 90-minute treatment will relieve you of £295 as well as your muscle tension.
For anyone looking for something a little more active, there’s a boujee gym studio too, with sleek kit from NOHrD and Peloton, and on-demand Personal Training
Expect your expectations to be exceeded all round.
Bedrooms range in size and décor, from cosy singles to opulent signature suites, all with cloud-comfy beds, luxurious bathrooms and thoughtful touches like Bamford products and Dyson hairdryers.
