Scarlet Hotel and Spa

The lowdown

A beautiful, adult-only eco-luxe hotel with a relaxed, modern feel, fab food, genuinely eco-friendly ethos, well-designed spa, indulgent ayurvedic spa treatments and those photogenic sea-view hot tubs.

The Scarlet is perched above pretty Mawgan Porth beach, along the coast from Newquay, but a million miles away in terms of calm. The hotel has a chilled, friendly, vibe, and has been cleverly designed to maximise light and sea views, while minimising its environmental impact.

Treatment highlights

Spa treatments include a range of indulgent Ayurvedic massage-based treatment for face and body, including ‘attuned’ personalised ‘journeys’, tailored to your specific needs and problem areas. And, if that’s not enough, there’s also an authentic Hamman and Rhassoul steam room for a good scrub, mud slather and steam.

Like everything at Scarlet, the 37 rooms have been carefully designed and styled with both guest comfort and environment in mind – with ambient lighting, natural materials and cloud-fluffy robes. You even get some recycled eco slippers to take home with you as a souvenir of your stay. Room options range from ‘Just Right’ to ‘Indulgent’ and are priced accordingly. Impressively, all have access to outside space – whether it’s a balcony, garden, or courtyard terrace. And there are two wheelchair-accessible rooms plus a lift to all floors.

wining & dining

Scarlet’s restaurant enjoys the view and offers delicious, modern European dishes using locally and sustainably sourced ingredients. Spa guests can dine in their robes and most dietary requests can be accommodated, as can orders for picnic hampers to enjoy while exploring the local coast and coves.

We ate from the creative Ayurveda-inspired ‘healthy’ menu which included fresh mackerel on sourdough and roasted pineapple with a pokey chilli sauce for dessert. If you’re feeling like something more substantial you can pay to upgrade to the full menu.

why so spavellous?

The Scarlet is a haven of relaxation and works in synergy with its privileged natural setting. It offers just the right level of luxury, style and service and has a impressive ethical ethos. Spa and treatments are perfectly pitched, and we love the emphasis on personalised experiences and wellness objectives. The food and décor are also on point. And it’s one of the few spas where solo spa goers are made to feel truly at home.
